How to block or report someone on a dating site

Most people you meet on a dating site are fine. When someone isn't, you have two tools: blocking and reporting. They do different things, and you can use both.

Block or report?

  • Block when you simply don't want contact with someone anymore. It works straight away and only affects the two of you.
  • Report when a profile looks fake, sends spam, tries to move people to other apps or services, harasses someone, or looks like it belongs to someone under 18.
  • If someone makes you uncomfortable and also breaks the rules, do both: report first, then block.

What blocking does here

  • You and the person you block no longer see each other in your matches.
  • Your conversation disappears from both message lists.
  • Neither of you can send messages to the other. Messages are refused, not stored.
  • If they open your profile, it shows as not available. If you open theirs, you see that you have blocked them, with a button to unblock.
  • Blocking is private. The other person is not told.

How to block someone

  1. Open their profile, or your conversation with them.
  2. Press Block and confirm.

How to unblock someone

Go to your account page. Under Blocked users you see everyone you have blocked. Press Unblock next to the name. You will see each other again if your settings match, and you can send messages again.

How to report a profile

  1. Open the profile, or your conversation with that person.
  2. Press Report and choose a reason: fake profile, spam or advertising, sends people to other apps or services, harassment or abuse, under 18, or something else.

Your report is saved with that profile. If you report the same profile again, your latest reason replaces the earlier one. The other person is not told who reported them. Reporting does not block someone, so block them as well if you don't want more contact.

Warning signs worth reporting

  • They ask you to move to another app or website very quickly.
  • They ask for money, gift cards, crypto, or help with an "investment".
  • Their photos look like a model or a stock picture, and they avoid normal questions.
  • Their messages read like a copy-paste script, or they push links.

Never send money to someone you have only met online. If you have already lost money, contact your bank and your local police.

Your own account

You can delete your account at any time from your account page. If you need help, email [email protected].
